I am a Registered Nurse and a Diagnostic Radiographer based in Lismore Australia.
Seeing how much waste was generated from just one case in the hospital lab I sought ways to decrease the amount of recyclables going into the waste stream.
One of the materials easily recovered is platinum from the EP Catheters.
I looked for a company in Australia but could only find ones based overseas.
However, on consultation with the EPA it was found that the tips are a clinical waste and as such a permit to export them is required, whether they have been sterilized or not.
They are also identified as being in the class 6 waste category which places other restrictions on them.
